Regiones Climáticas

(Clima Tropical)Tropical Climate

1. (Bosques lluviosos tropicales)Tropical Rain Forest-hot and wet through the year, wildlife abundants, large vegetation and it could be found in South America's Amazon river basin.

2. (Sabanna tropical)Tropical Savanna-there wet summers and dry winters accompanied by high temperatures all year long and this could be found in Africa, Central and South america, Asia and Australia.

(Clima Seco)Dry Climate

1.(Desierto)Desert-it has low humidity needing plants, it covers 1/3 of the earth's land and it could be found in Africa.

2.(Estepa)Steppe-yearly rainfall avereges from 10 to 20 inches and there found in eastern Europe, central to western Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia.

(Clima de Latitudes Medias) Mid-Latitud Climate

1.(Oeste Costa Marina)Marine West Coast-the ocean winds bring to this climate cool summers and damp winters, abundent rainfall and this could be found th Pacific coast of North America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

2.(Mediterraneo)Mediterranean- they have mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers and this could be found in Southern California and parts of southern Australia.

3.(Subtrópicos Húmedos)Humid subtropical- Short mild winters and year-round rain. Wind patterns and high pressure keep humidity levels high in these areas. They are found in southeastern United States, parts of South America and Asia.

4.(Húmedo continental)Humid Continental- the farther north one travels the longer and more severe are the snowy winters, and the shorter and cooler the summers are. Vegetation is simlar to that found in marine west coast areas, with evergreens outnumbering deciduous trees in the northern most areas of the region. These areas are found in regions of the Northern Hemisphere, such as southern Canada, western Russia, and northeastern China.

(Clima de Latitudes Altas)High Latitude Climates

1.(Regiones Subárticas) Subartic regions- Winters are bitterly cold and summers are short and cool with the world's widest temperature ranges. They are found in the south of the Artic Circle.

2.(Tundras)tundra regions- very cold, the winter darkness and bitter cold last for half the year and sun's indirect rays bring constant summer light but little heat. Tundra vegetation is limited to low bushes, very short grasses, mosses, and lichens. Snow and ice constantly cover the surfaces of the ice cap regions. These are found closer to the polar regions, north of the Northern Hemisphere.

3.(Capas de hielo)Ice caps- are frequently about 2 milles width, the indirect sunlight brings constant but little heat, there are no trees because of the great amount of snow and this could be found in Greenland and in Antartica.

4.(Tierras altas)Highlands- the higher the altitude, the lower the temperature, the vegetation varies as varies the altitude, the base of the mountains are formed of a dense forest area and are found in the mountain chains of the world.

Los Coquíes

We are called "Los Coquíes" because the coqui is one of the many famouse animals that live in Puerto Rico. The coqui is called that way because of the two sounds that it makes that are "co"-"qui". Did you know that there are over 600 species of coqui, which 16 of those species live on our island. "El Coquí de Mona", "La Ranita de Labio Blanco", and "El Coquí Duende" are some of the diferente species of coqui that live in Puerto Rico.
